TEST(I)GO
This work is based on the emblematic painting by the American artist Edward Hopper “Woman in the sun”, a moment frozen in time, in which we can witness our own life experience. We are in full control of every detail, every intention, every thought. Everything is true and at the same time a lie; we remain still, floating in the status quo, wishing that the next move was someone else’s decision and not our own.
In the painting A Woman in the Sun, a woman stands in front of a window where sunlight can be seen entering. “We see a woman who seems to contemplate her life from outside. There is a silence in the air and we can imagine a previous story. That is why the name of the work: Test, as in test, testing life, and witness, being a spectator of life, of our own life,” she says.
Test(i)go is posed as the exercise of living, of seeing living, of listening, of remembering, of failing, of wanting to understand, of being selfish, of loving, the exercise of witnessing our own life experience, being spectators of our own survival.
The production lasts 55 minutes and is made up of 14 scenes that are not temporally continuous, but are choreographically and structurally linked.
This work premiered in 2014 with the CEPRODAC cast at the Teatro de la Ciudad, DF, Mexico.
In addition, Catania made another version “Test(i)go fuera” for the ENDC School as a graduation project.
